şizofreni

there's no end to the love you can give
when you change your point of view to underfoot
very good, you may be flat but you're breathing

and there's no doubt he's at home in his room,
probably watching porn of you from the fall
it's last call, and you're the last one leaving

and you thought you could change the world by opening your legs
well it isn't very hard, try kicking them instead
and you thought you could change his mind
by changing your perfume to the kind his mother wore
oh god, delilah, why? i've never met a more impossible girl

in this same bar, where you slammed down your hand and said:
"amanda, i'm in love"
no you're not, you're just a sucker for the ones who use you
and it doesn't matter what i say or do,
the stupid bastard's gonna have his way with you

you're an unrescuable schizo, or else you're on the rag
and if you take him back, i'm gonna lose my nerve
i've never met a more impossible girl

at four o'clock he got off, and you called up
"i'm down at denny's on route one, and you won't guess what he's done"
is that a fact, delilah? larry tap let you in through the back
and use his calling card again for a quick hand of gin

you are impossible, delilah, the princess of denial
and after seven years in advertising, you are none the wiser

you're an unrescuable schizo, or else you're on the rag
and if you take him back, i'm gonna lose my nerve
he's gonna beat you like a pillow, you schizos never learn
and if you take him home, you'll get what you deserve
i never met a more impossible girl

so don't cry, delilah,
you're still alive, delilah
you need a ride, delilah?
let's see how fast this thing can go

naujas

hey, alles glänzt so schön neu
hey, wenns dir nicht gefällt mach neu
die welt mit staub bedeckt, doch ich will sehn wo's hingeht
steig auf den berg aus dreck, weil oben frischer wind weht
hey, alles glänzt so schön neu

hey, alles glänzt so schön neu
hey, alles glänzt so schön neu

blogablogaBLOGablogablog
it's been a while since i've said anything of note
[note being me not posting lyrics]
and now seems as good a time as any
why? because b1g spring football kicked off this weekend
[except at purdue, who cancelled due to potential death storms]
and since there aren't any enjoyable sports until august,
i need to fill the athletic void somehow

thankfully, i needn't look far,
because the the 2012 schedules b1g schedules have been released
which means now that i've had a chance to look through all of them,
it's time to scope out which matchups will be best WAY too early
for the sake of organization, we'll go week by weekare you ready for this shit?
ARE you READYfor THIS SHIT?!
goddamn right you are. let's get to it

week 1:
msu v. boise state
quick poll: can the b1g season start out any better than this game?
quick answer: no way, no how
here we have a matchup of two teams that ended 2011 in the top 10,
one is the perennial bcs at–large team that takes down an aq team every single year,
the other is the defending division champ with back-to-back 11 win seasons
both teams are starting new kids at key positions [qb/rb/wr/safety],
and both are looking to start the season with a quality win over a ranked opponent
and best of all, the game is nationally televised on a friday from spartan stadium
whether you love or hate msu, you will be watching this game
you know you will

michigan v. alabama
we can be sure that, of all the things michigan was planning on when they scheduled this,
they weren't planning on facing an alabama squad fresh of a national championship
beyond the fact that this is a special opening week game [the cowboys classic],
which means that a ton of people will be watching,
this is the perfect statement game for both of these teams:
it could be michigan's unequivocal announcement that they are 'back',
knocking off an sec powerhouse in the process,
or bama's opportunity to beat yet another b1g team,
and in so doing defend their championship in the biggest of ways
both conferences proclaim to be the best in college football,
so what better way to determine it than a head to head?

week 2:
illinois @ arizona state
some of you may think i put this game here to be a cynical bastard,
and you'd be right
illinois is fresh of being the first team to star 6–0 and finish 0–6,
as well as completely overhauling their coaching staff
the sun devils are fresh off completely imploding down the stretch,
and losing their division to the first ever 6–8 team, ucla
last year, the teams were rather evenly matched
[basically being the same team in two different conferences]
and the rematch in tempe will be a good gauge of how each is restarting
plus, since the b1g/pac12 non–con matchups don't start till 2017,
this is all we get to look forward to until the rose bowl

iowa v. iowa state
the cyhawk trophy is one of the better non–con b1g trophy games
[regardless of what the trophy itself will look like],
and no self–respecting football fan misses out on a good, intrastate football rivalry
especially since, after 3 straight losses where they failed to score more than 7 points,
iowa state beat the piss out iowa last year at home
so you can be sure iowa will be out for blood this year in iowa city

penn state @ virginia
this one seems like kind of a longshot, but i'd put money on it being a great game
penn state, as we all know, is in complete transition from the joepa era,
and everyone's gonna be all over bill o'brian to start off the season well
meanwhile, virginia put together one of the better seasons in the acc last year
and was playing [but lost] for the chance to face clemson in the title game
they may have ended the season with a thud [19 point loss to auburn],
but i'd bet they'll be at least as good this year as last
which means penn state will probly have its hands full when it goes to charlottesville

week 3:
msu v. notre dame
does this one even need an explanation?
msu/notre dame has been one of the best b1g rivalries in the past 10 years
and with both teams striving to be nationally elite,
this game has huge implications for the rest of both teams' seasons
so you better believe spartan stadium will be packed for this game

nebraska v. arkansas state
this game ought to be very interesting
arkansas state won its first conference championship last year,
their new head coach is the o/c from auburn [the same guy who coached cam newton],
and nebraska's non–con schedule is otherwise very soft
this game may be in lincoln, but i think it'll be a tough game for the huskers to pull off

week 4:
michigan @ notre dame
again, is this really worthy of a full explanation?
notre dame's other rivalry against the state of michigan is usually a good game,
and michigan will be hard pressed to follow up their home performance last year
if they manage to beat both alabama and notre dame in september,
i imagine they'd find themselves ranked in the top 5

week 5:
iowa v. minnesota
this is another game that initially may not seem like a good one,
but considering how this game played out last year,
i expect as good of a show this time around
minnesota's beaten iowa twice in a row,
something that that hasn't happened in a dozen years
this game is suddenly falling under the 'inexplicable loss' category for iowa
which means it might be fun to watch the hawkeyes get flustered yet again

ohio state @ msu
i might as well just start listing every msu game now,
since it's only week 5 and i've already listed 3 of them
but there's no doubt in my mind that this game will be incredible
last year's was a defensive show case with 59 minutes of rather plodding play,
[with 1 minute of excitement near the end]
but this year will be better for two reasons:
msu hasn't lost at home since 2009
and this will be ohio state's first b1g game with urban meyer
if there's really any team that has the capability to beat msu in e/l, it's ohio state
BUT, with mr. egotistical at the helm of the buckeyes now,
replete with spread offense and unabashed indifference to rules,
ohio state should get a pretty good spanking to start off the b1g schedule,
not unlike nebraska's opener last year at wiscy

wisconsin v. nebraska
speaking of nebraska and wisconsin,
they both kick off their respective seasons against each other again this year
though this time they'll be playing in lincoln
wisconsin's got themselves a new acc qb in danny o'brian,
marking this their third starting qb in as many years,
while nebraska's chomping at the bit to be competitive in the b1g title race
plus, after last october's 31-point loss,
i can only imagine that the huskers wish to return the favor

week 6:
msu v. indiana
hah, just kidding, this game will be a total blowout

nebraska @ ohio state
considering that very few b1g fans actually like the buckeyes,
and that urban meyer is the coach now,
i bet this game will get tons of interest from non–husker fans,
specifically hoping they beat the piss out of ohio state at the shoe
and considering how competitive last year's game was,
i bet this one will be just as good

week 7:
iowa @ msu
week 7 and it's already the fourth msu game
but whatcha gon' do?
iowa and msu have been rather evenly matched of late
[in terms of talent and playing style, at least],
and this promises to be yet another smash–mouth game of b1g football
and who would want to miss that?

week 8:
penn state @ iowa
ah yes, iowa, bane of nittany lions' fans for two decades
how much of a bane, you may ask?
penn state has only won in iowa city only thrice since joining the b1g [out of 7 tries]
and only a grand total of ONCE since 1995
their games are usually good and close,
and this one should be especially enticing what with all the coaching changes:
penn state having an entirely new staff, iowa having a new o/c and d/c
plus, it's penn state, and you should ALWAYS watch penn state play

michigan v. msu
and there it is, the paul bunyan trophy
paul's been in e/l long enough to get an undergrad degree,
after having been at michigan long enough to get a master's
this game is a bit later in october than it has been in recent years
[the last three being held on october 15, 9, and 3, respectively]
but that should have no bearing on quality
while i wouldn't bet on either team being undefeated by the time this game is played
[each is likely going to play 3 ranked opponents before week 8],
i would bet on it being one of the best games of the season
why? michigan hasn't beaten msu at the big house since 2006
which is flat out embarrassing

nebraska @ northwestern
we all know that northwestern's made a habit of pulling a big upset every year
it seems to be pat fitzgerald's specialty
last year's was nebraska, which was confounding as it was funny
i want to see these two play again simply to see if the wildcats can do it again
welcome to the b1g, nebraska, northwestern is our iowa state

purdue v. ohio state
this one, you may remember, falls under the 'house of horrors' heading,
because the buckeyes have had some tremendous failures in west lafayette
and we all like seeing ohio state inexplicably lose, yes?
so even though most purdue games tend to fall on the 'meh' end of the scale,
this one will certainly be worth watching

week 9:
iowa @ northwestern
and speaking of inexplicable losses to inferior opponents
['inexplicable' repetition meter: 4 times],
iowa and northwestern really typifies this problem for b1g teams
i think will simply be a fun game to watch,
because spoilers are ALWAYS fun to watch [unless they're happening to you]
also, for the record, i'm calling this as northwestern's yearly spoiler game
hear me now, believe me late

nebraska v. michigan
this game is michigan's first real road game of the season
[purdue doesn't count because michigan isn't the buckeyes],
and it should be a doozy
michigan, msu, and nebraska are all variously expected to win the legends,
and this game will go a long way in establishing who does win it
last year, michigan's win over the huskers gave msu the division championship,
so there's little reason to think it won't matter again

wisconsin v. msu
this will be the first time since 2009 that msu travels to camp randall,
a place no b1g has won since iowa two weeks after the above mentioned game
[wiscy holds the longest b1g home winning streak at 10,
followed by msu at 8 and michigan at 4]
given the intensity of the last five matchups between these teams,
culminating in last year's two insanely watchable games,
you can be damn sure this one will be just as good

ohio state @ penn state
this game is the leaders division's version of nebraska/michigan
even though wisconsin is going to be favored win leaders again,
osu and penn state are gonna be right there challenging for it,
so it naturally holds that this game will go a long way to determining who wins it
plus, with both teams getting completely new staffs this season,
it'll be a good barometer for how far they've come

week 10:
nebraska @ msu
another one? why not
this week's actually kinda starved for good matchups,
what with um/minnesota, iowa/indiana, osu/illinois, and psu/purdue being the others
so this one stands out because, again, it will mean a lot in the legends division race
plus, nebraska is the last remaining b1g opponent a dantonio team hasn't beaten,
so you can be sure they'll try to make it a reality

week 11:
penn state @ nebraska
another lone standout against a week of 'meh' games,
this one ought to be fantastic
in fact, i'm not even gonna bother selling you on it
if you aren't already compelled to watch either penn state or nebraska play football,
then i really want nothing to do with you

week 12:
michigan v. iowa
i put this game on the list for a very specific reason:
iowa is currently riding it's longest win streak over michigan EVER
michigan state's streak over michigan gets more press,
but this one is just as impressive
iowa's never won twice in a row in ann arbor,
brady hoke's team has yet to lose at home
something's gotta give, yeah?

ohio state @ wisconsin
this game, not unlike msu/michigan, will probly determine the leaders division winner
ohio state usually comes into this game heavily favored,
but we all remember the last time the buckeyes went to camp randall, don't we?
the long and short of it is that this game is gonna be hard fought,
will likely go down to the wire, and is probly gonna be awesome
and who would want to miss a game like that?

week 13:
iowa v. nebraska
i was a huge fan of this game when it was announced as a series,
and i continue to be to this day
granted, last year's game was a rather underwhelming start,
but this has all the makings of a great rivalry
and, really, what better way is there to spend the day after thanksgiving?

michigan @ ohio state
last year, this game finally got a shot in the arm as far as watchability,
when michigan beat the buckeyes for the first time in 8 tries
who was on the last team that beat ohio state for michigan, you might [not] ask?
john navarre, braylon edwards, chris perry, david bass, and lloyd carr
yeah, it'd been a while
now the wolverines have to go to columbus to prove it wasn't a fluke
this is a game you should watch regardless,
but now you have even less of an excuse

penn state v. wisconsin
you really couldn't ask for a better b1g season wrap up
these teams have been phenomenal the past few years,
and last year this game decided who would represent the leaders in the ccg
[i know, wiscy won in a blowout, but that wasn't the point]
and i'm positive it will be the deciding factor again this year

tl;dr: watch ALL the games

4/1/12

podłoga

with hand on heart, you're right from the start,
you taught me to take my part
no cross to bear, no reason to care,
my life was all up in the air

four to the floor, i was sure, never seeing clear,
i could have it all whenever you are near

the iron hand did not understand
the plight of the common man

four to the floor, i was sure she would be my girl
we'd rent a little world, we'd have a little girl

10/30/11

glen canyon

so,
after a bit of a breakdown in lincoln,
[and by that i mean a three touchdown beatdown]
msu took a bit of a nosedive in the bcs
they dropped six spots down to #17
wisconsin, on the other hand, has plummted 14 spots in two weeks [to #20],
thanks to two back–to–back close losses to msu and ohio state
nebraska, michigan, and penn state are all up in the bcs rankings
moving up four, three, and three spots respectively
iowa mindblowingly lost again to MINNESOTA [!]
[btdubs, the last time minnesota got back–to–back wins on ANYONE was  2008/9
when they beat purdue twice in a row
the last quality opponent they beat twice in a row was penn state in 2003/4]
northwestern finally got a big ten win,
illinois's on a three–game backslide
indiana remains winless in the big ten,
and the legends division is very much up for grabs
such is the state of big ten football in week 10

i realize this is gonna seem like a weird time to do this,
but i really don't give a shit
i wanted to wait until october was done before doing any sort of prediction
mostly because october is the month where you learn who teams really are,
and when you see what they're actually capable of
also because october is when everyone gets proved wrong
and i'd rather have something to base my claims on
so, let's get to it

first off, my big ten championship prediction:
michigan state v. penn state

and how do we get there?
through my division predicitons, of course

of all the teams in the legends division,
msu has the best shot of going 4–0 in november
michigan has to go to iowa and ohio state, and host nebraska
nebraska has to go to penn state and michigan, and host iowa
iowa has to host msu and michigan, and then go to nebraska
while msu goes to iowa and northwestern, and hosts minnesota and indiana
with the exception of iowa, those are all teams msu's beaten recently
and msu is extremely capable of handling them this time around as well
[iowa will be a challenge for msu, since iowa : msu :: msu : wisconsin
that is to say, msu hasn't won there since 1989, aka SINCE I WAS BORN]
plus, if msu goes 4–0 in november, they'll be 7–1 in big ten play, 4–1 in conference
only nebraska and michigan would be able to match that,
and msu holds the tiebreaker over michigan
so, i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say msu does finish the season undefeated
and that michigan beats nebraska in three weeks
thus, we have msu winning the division

the leaders side is a little bit more intriguing
penn state has the toughest closing schedule in the big ten,
[hosting nebraska, at ohio state, and at wisconsin]
but all three of those teams are beatable,
especially against a defense as good as penn state's
wisconsin's is a bit easier, closing at illinois then penn state
and ohio state closes at penn state then michigan
i'm not sold on ohio state at all,
they barely beat wisconsin, they've only won on the road against illinois,
and their home schedule otherwise has been a cakewalk [msu excepted]
wisconsin has an easier closing slate than penn state,
and they do get to host penn state at the end of the season,
but they've had real problems playing teams as good as them
way in the lead they're fine, but in a close game they've choked twice in a row
maybe that'll translate to finishing the season strong,
but i think it's more likely that they stumble once more
so, with all that in mind,
i expect to see penn state win out in november,
especially since their offense finally seems to be stepping up,
and their defense has been playing like the penn state of lore
which puts them in indy in december opposite msu

now, with both of the divisions decided come the championship prediciton
msu over penn state [no score; that's the one thing i don't predict]
that game would ultimately come down to who has the better offense
and that title absolutely belongs to msu
msu's offense has been much more productive than penn state's,
and it's proven that it can step up if the defense can't [see the wisconsin game]
whereas penn state's defense has been bailing out its offense
especially against iowa and illinois
this isn't to say that msu's offense or penn state's defense will fall by the wayside,
it's to say that msu's offense stands a greater chance of success
especially in the spot where experience matters most: at quarterback
mcgloin's had some impressive moments in the past few weeks,
but i'd much rather rely on a consistent and solid player like cousins
and so, when all is said and done,
i predict msu will raise whatever trophy the big ten makes for its first championship game

LET THE SCREAMING COMMENCE
[also, this is my official prediction,
so feel free to hold me to it]

in other news,
my costume this halloween has been a rip–roarin' success
i haven't gotten compliments like this since i was solid snake [see here and here]
if a good photo is taken of me as opie before the week is out,
i would be glad to share it with you fine folks
keep your fingers crossed

ADDENDUM
i came to an annoying revelation after i posted this
apparently i'm not the only one who has this same prediction
the espn bloggers think almost the exact same way i do,
along with a few other college sports media types
so, just to be clear, this one was all me
i'm not copying other people to seem cool or like i know what i'm talking about
[which, for the record, i do]
so consider it circumstantial and nothing more, hokay?

wubwubwub

as much as i am loathe to admit it
[especially considering how many musically judgmental fucks i know]
i do actually like dubstep
but, i've found that the main reason i like it isn't always the music
the comments that people leave on dubstep videos are, in short, amazing
and, after spending some time on youtube,
i present you with some gems i've found

  • so dirty, it feels like ten tramps and their dogs just spunked in my ear drum, then used my brain as a kleenex… and i normally pay good money for that service
  • The drop is so heavy my rubix cube fell off my desk and completed itsself, neighbors called the police and they got arrested, my windows broke and had to buy a mac,my cat barked, ʇxǝʇ ʎɯ oʇ sıɥʇ pıp doɹp ssɐq ǝɥʇ, , made --- people miss the like button, mom walked in and I switched to porn, it became my neighbors favorite song, hitler got his gas bill, I pressed F13 for extra bass, my water turned into wine, I clicked 720p, it went B0:00M and I want more!
  • Sounds like a Transformer having sex in the Renaissance!
  • THIS SHIT IS SICKER THAN FINGERING YOUR SISTER AND FINDIN YOUR DADS WEDDIN RING!!!!!!
  • wtf at 00:55 = duck on extasy ??? nice
  • I miss those comments about these type of songs, the ones about a group of monks playing this on there pubes and various other random things <3.
  • I like dubstep when it goes WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB WUB…
  • It's so filthy, when my mom walked in I had to switch to porn.
  • Oh my Jesus. Taking a bath in diarrhea would be cleaner than this filthy dubstep. :D
  • my Gf hated dubstep untill she sat on my subwoofer xD
  • Sounds like a tractor raping a dog...is that just me? O.o
  • My neighbors listen to dubstep, because they have to.
  • This song is so dirty that Mr. Clean made 2,4000 accounts just to hit the dislike button…
  • Michael J Fox doesn't have Parkinsons, he just heard this song and wasn't ready for it.
  • I like the part when my head started to bash the wall with the beat
  • The bass in this was so intense, I drank some orange juice.
  • Dancing is for fags. I fight gorillas to this music.
  • The drop is somewhere between Satan's penis and a Hobo's butthole as a far as cleanliness.
  • This is what Beethoven on an acid trip after 4 hits of cocaine and an army of droids sounds like.
  • The drop was so heavy that, well, it sounded really good. no faggy descriptions there.
  • Good sir, I believe i shat enough bricks to build a second Great Wall.
  • ok i literally looked for about 30 mins now be4 posting this...........fuckstep isnt a genre......... WHYYY?!?!?!?!
  • justin bieber's ball are never gonna have a drop as big as this songs drop :DDDDD

solidarjetà

when the union's inspiration through the workers' blood shall run
there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun
yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one
but the union makes us strong

is there aught we hold in common with the greedy parasite
who would lash us into serfdom and would crush us with his might
is there anything left to us but to organize and fight
for the union makes us strong

it is we who plowed the prairies, built the cities where they trade
dug the mines and built the workshops, endless miles of railroad laid
now we stand outcast and starving midst the wonders we have made
but the union makes us strong

all the world that's owned by idle drones is ours and ours alone
we have laid the wide foundations, built it skyward stone by stone
it it ours, not to slave in, but to master and to own
while the union makes us strong

they have taken untold millions that they never toiled to earn
but without our brain and muscle not a single wheel can turn
we can break their haughty power, gain out freedom when we learn
that the union makes us strong

in our hands is placed a power greater than their hoarded gold
greater than the might of armies, magnified a thousand–fold
we can bring to birth a new world from the ashes of the old
for the union makes us strong

we're the women of the union and we sure know how to fight
we'll fight for women's issues and we'll fight for women's rights
a woman's work is never done from morning until night
women make the union strong

it is we who wash the dishes, scrub the floors and clean the dirt
feed the kids and send them off to school—and then we go to work
where we work for half men's wages for a boss who likes to flirt
but the union makes us strong

they say our day is over, they say our time is through
they say you need no union if your collar isn't blue
well that is just another lie the boss is telling you
for the union makes us strong

they divide us by our color, they divide us by our tongue
they divide us men and women, they divide us old and young
but they'll tremble at our voices when they hear these verses sung
for the union makes us strong

solidarity forever
solidarity forever
solidarity forever
for the union makes us strong

condamnée

what passing–bells for these who die as cattle?
only the monstrous anger of the guns.
only the stuttering rifles' rapid rattle
can patter out their hasty orisons.
no mockeries for them; no prayers nor bells,
nor any voice of mourning save the choirs,—
the shrill, demented choirs of the wailing shells;
and bugles calling for them from sad shires.

what candles may be held to speed them all?
not in the hands of boys, but in their eyes
shall shine the holy glimmers of goodbyes.
the pallor of girls' brows shall be their pall;
their flowers the tenderness of patient minds,
and each slow dusk a drawing–down of blinds

on a sunday i'll think it though
on the drive back, i'll think it through
what you wish for won't come true
live with that

and on a sunday she thought it through
now as i drive back, there's thirty–six less hours
i have to change the course i send myself
live with that

on a sunday, go once around
because when the ride's done, the hopes that you have carried,
they fall out from your hands back to the ground
live with that

learn as the drugs leave
learn as you lose it
you will

the haze clears from your eyes on a sunday

peregrination

i feel the need to share this,
mostly because i can,
and partly because i'll forget to if i don't now

i just got back from the longest trek i've ever taken in e/l
in short:
i started at knob hill apartments in okemos
i ended at phillips hall in east lansing
i left at 3`30 a/m
i got back at 5`06 a/m
distance? 5 miles
temperature? –2º
beard? frozen
it was well worth it

and now, to bed
cuz i'm fucking tired

bcsucks

hey, people who like msu football:
we cracked the top five in the BCS this week
how bout that?

i gotta say,
watching them play this year is doing good things for me
i actually enjoy watching the games, for one
[cuz i sure as hell didn't last year,
not after that whole cmu debacle]
they've got some shades of the 2008 season going,
what with actually having a good run game and all
it's given me something to do on saturdays, too
instead of going broke trying to afford this city
i approve on all counts

as much as i kinda sorta want to
i'm not going to play the prediction game
not for the bcs standings, not for bowl games
and sure as shit not for the big ten standing
not because i'm afraid of cursing the team,
or because i don't want to be wrong
why?
it's way too fucking insane, that's why
seriously
there are WAY too many possibilities for how the season ends
there's different scenarios depending on who wins out,
how tie breakers affect the big ten champ,
who'll jump over who in the bcs rankings
who gets what bowl game depending on who loses when/which team
it's enough to give anyone a nosebleed

i'll leave the predictions for the fans with nothing better to do
and/or people who get paid to give them
i'll leave you with this sentiment, though:
this year's college season, along with this year's professional season,
is some of the most entertaining football i've seen in a long time
and i do mean that
teams are losing games they shouldn't and winning games they shouldn't
the polls are all fucked up beyond compare
standings are completely up in the air
it's a total free–for–all among every single team in the league
and we're waiting anxiously to see who's gonna make it through unscathed
it's fucking awesome,
and i love it

oh, here in the shop the machines roar so wildly,
that oft, unaware that i am, or have been,
i sink and am lost in the terrible tumult;
and void is my soul... i am but a machine.
i work and i work and i work, never ceasing;
create and create things from morning till e'en;
for what?—and for whom—oh, i know not! oh, ask not!
who has ever heard of a conscious machine?

no, here is no feeling, no thought and no reason;
this life–crushing labor has ever supprest
the noblest and the finest, the truest and richest,
the deepest, the highest and humanly best.
the seconds, the minutes, they pass out forever,
they vanish, swift fleeting like straws in a gale.
i drive the wheel madly as tho' to o'ertake them,—
give chase without wisdom, or wit, or avail.

the clock in the workshop,—it rests not a moment;
it points on, and ticks on: eternity—time;
and once someone told me the clock had a meaning,—
its pointing and ticking had reason and rhyme.
and this too he told me,—or had i been dreaming,—
the clocked wakened life in one, forces unseen,
and something besides;... i forget what; oh, ask not!
i know not, i know not, i am a machine.

at times, when i listen, i hear the clock plainly;—
the reason of old—the old meaning—is gone!
the maddening pendulum urges me forward
to labor and labor and still labor on.
the tick of the clock is the boss in his anger!
the face of the clock has the eyes of a foe;
the clock—oh, i shudder—dost hear how it drives me?
it calls me "machine!"—and it cries to me "sew!"

at noon, when about me the wild tumult ceases,
and gone is the master, and i sit apart,
and the dawn in my brain is beginning to glimmer,
that would comes agape at the core of my heart;
and tears, bitter tears flow; ay, tears that are scalding;
they moisten my dinner—my dry crust of bread;
they choke me,—i cannot eat;—no, no, i cannot!
oh, horrible toil i born of need and dread.

the sweatshop at mid–day—i'll draw you the picture:
a battlefield bloody;the conflict at rest;
around and about me the corpses are lying;
the blood cries aloud from the earth's gory breast.
a moment... and hark! the loud signal is sounded,
the dead rise again and renewed is the fight...
they struggle, these corpses; for strangers, for strangers!
they struggle, they fall, and they sink into night.

i gaze on the battle in bitterest anger,
and pain, hellish pain wakes the rebel in me!
the clock—now i hear it aright!—it is crying:
"an end to this bondage! an end there must be!"
it quickens my reason, each feeling within me;
it shows me how precious the moments that fly.
oh, worthless my life if i longer am silent,
and lost to the world if in silence i die.

the man in me sleeping begins to awaken;
the thing that was slave into slumber has passed:
now; up with the man in me! up and be doing!
no misery more! here is freedom at last!
when sudden: a whistle!—the boss—an alarum!—
i sink in the slime of the stagnant routine;—
there's tumult, they struggle, oh, lost is my ego;—
i know not, i care not, i am a machine!...

as much as i really want to
and i do mean REALLY WANT TO
i'm not going to bitch about the new big ten divisions
i'm not going to complain about the new championship game
i am, however, gonna bitch about opening week matchups
on second thought, i'm not gonna bitch about that either
i'll just say that i have serious issues with all of them
and i don't want to waste you people's time with lots of cursing
[though, let's face it, you're all used to it by now]

it's kinda sad,
i'm one of the only people out here that's really into sports
so i have no one to yell at the tv with,
BUT
i did find a steelers bar on third ave
[they had an inflatable hines ward on the sidewalk in front of their window]
which i am going to frequent with great regularity come the nfl season
mostly since i don't have cable,
and i am NOT going without football this fall, goddamn it

my hard drive is rapidly approaching too full
[too many movies/much music]
which means here in the not–too–distant future
i'z gonna need a external
maybe someday i'll actually be able to afford it

i've been waiting three years to be able to say this,
and the time has finally come:
it's daybreak, and i just got home from work
after being there all night

saying that was almost enough to give me a stiffy
i've been looking for a third shift job for years, literally
and i've never had any luck getting one
closest i got was working close at the caf
and that was less late–night, more hideous torture
but now, i get legit third shift hours
and i'm fucking pumped
of course, i'm the only person i know who would be
how sad is it that overnight shifts actually excite me?

eh, i'll ponder the pathetic implications later
i've got starcraft to play

i am a poor pilgrim of sorrow,
tossed out in this wide world alone
i have no promise of tomorrow
i've started to make heaven my home

i know i'm weak and unworthy
my heart is so prone to sin
but jesus, the savior almighty,
has promised to take me in

my mother has reached the bright glory
my father's still wand'ring in sin
my brothers and sisters won't own me
because i'm trying to get in

when friends and relations forsake me,
when troubles grow 'round me so high,
i think of the kind words of jesus
poor pilgrim, i am always nigh

been a while, hasn't it?
i'm sure you were all just crushed

since i'm sure a few of you are expecting this:
HARBLGRAHASFDSBALHA I'M 21 NOW N SHIT
rundown of what i did on thursday:
–nothing
...
so that was fun
i honestly didn't do anything on my birthday
i read some graphic novels, had bagel bites
and then watched a movie later that night
my facebook got plenty of action, though
[i got messages from people i haven't seen in YEARS
weird how that works]

friday, however, is a different story
after having a delicious meal of boneless ribs at bdubs
[which was not a good idea]
i went up to dublin square to get some guinness in me
met up with jillian [who i'd kept waiting], chrissy, and sean
saw liz and beagles too, but they were heading to a co–op
it was a pretty good night, all told
finally had an irish carbomb [two, actually]
went back to sean's, watched some archer
[HOLY SHIT do i love that show like you wouldn't believe]
didn't sleep much, went to ihop for breakfast,
then drove home
doesn't quite reach dr merrill's epic 21st,
but i suppose it'll do

finally got to play some carter with tennis today
i've missed it
him and i made really good partners back in the day
and it's just fun to hit around with him for a while
when him and nick are playing together, though
oh man
it's like watching slapstick

nothing else to really report
still unemployed, still lonely, still pale and bearded
i've been reading a lot since i got home though,
which is something i've really been missing out on
it's nice to finally do it on my terms
hopefully i'll keep it up all summer
other than that, i got nothing

i got this:
this year's eurovision contest was one by germany
a song called 'satellite' by lena
i'm glad the eurovision winners are keeping my prediction true,
which is that each year the winning song gets much, much worse
i made that prediction in during the 2007 contest
that winner was 'molitva' by marija šerifović [a decent song, at best]
i figured, if that one managed to beat out all the others,
it'd only keep getting worse
in 2008, dima bilan won with 'believe'
in 2009, alexander rybak won with 'fairytale'
[in his defense, though, he can fiddle like a sumbitch]
and this year, lena won
see what i mean?

they all have hills to fly them on except for lin tai yu
dressing up in costumes, playing silly games
hiding out in tree tops shouting out rude names

whistling tunes we piss on the goons in the jungle
it's a knockout
if looks could kill, they probably will

the university of football

i had a first today, and i think it's worth sharing:
i got so angry at football commentators that i started to scream
i have never, EVER, in my life
heard college commentating as bad as the msu/texas tech game on espn
honest to fucking christ
they sounded like texas tech paid them off to be complimentary
they were fuckin sucking ruffin mcneill's cock on the airwaves tonight
talking about how hard texas tech's had it this week
only mentioned dantonio in passing,
completely marginalized our entire team
only complimented us a record five times
at one point they ever referred to it as the 'controversy bowl'
i wish i could get my goddamn hands on them,
because i'd love to fucking wring both of their necks
they're a disgrace to commentators, and that's saying something
because commentators always suck

i'm starting a posting theme today
it'll continue for as long as i feel like
i'm basically going to be ranting about football [pro and college],
because i feel like letting it all out
so, if you don't like football or don't like my rants
feel free to check back in a week or so

——————————

i will never understand the way coaches handle staff changes, ever
because it's always handled so poorly
and it makes me question their loyalty and integrity

first up to the plate tonight is brian kelly
brian kelly, once upon a time, coached for cmu
he started in 2004, with very limited success
he put in the effort, and in 2006 they won the mac championship
they headed off to the motor city bowl
BUT
kelly resigned his post to accept the head coach job at cincinnati
a post left vacant by the departure of mark dantonio
as he leaves, kelly states he will not coach cmu at their bowl game
[they did win, by the way]

he spends the next three years at cincinnati
and by all accounts, it was an amazing tenure
in his first two years, cincy had only six losses
in his last year, they were completely undefeated
they ranked #3 in the bcs, and were invited to play in the sugar bowl
but, surprise surprise, kelly wouldn't be there
after PUBLICLY STATING that he would stay at cincy,
kelly accepted the head coaching job at notre dame
and guess what? he wouldn't coach cincy in their bowl game
this was kelly's first bcs game ever
it was his opportunity to pummel the florida gators on national tv
but, being brian kelly, he passed on it
now he's preparing to turn around the ailing notre dame program
who wants to bet he bails on them in three years too?

congratulations brian kelly
you've abandoned two teams you helped push to success
you've basically left an entire university high and dry
AFTER you publicly promised you'd stay there
[shades of bobby petrino, anyone?]
ALSO, during their loss to florida yesterday,
i heard a commentator talk about you during the second half
saying you were the 'biggest cincy fan out there',
and that it 'broke your heart to not be on that sideline'
you abandon your team, and still come out looking like a good guy?
you are officially an asshole

[it's worth noting, too,
that kelly had great success at his first coaching job,
grand valley state had .725 winning percentage under him
they won four conference championships
and were national champions in division II his final two years
obviously the man is very talented
he just doesn't appear to have a soul]

on deck, we have urban meyer
everybody has heard about the urban meyer thing by now
everybody who follows college football, at least
on boxing day, he announced he was resigning from the florida gators
he'd ignored his health too long, he said, and his family was suffering from it
he'd had a great tenure, and it would be hard for him to let go of his boys
everyone down in florida was gonna miss him,
and it threw a lot of questions into the air about his successor
.....
WAITNOHOLDONNEVERMINDSTOPHOLDONASEC
the next day he took it back
the very next day, after a 'spirited practice', he retracted his resignation
instead, he said, he'd take an indefinite leave of absence
and he would leave the team in the hands of his offensive coordinator
better yet, he basically said he'd come back this coming season
he said he felt in his gut he would come back

all that took place over about 26 hours worth of time
all before the bowl game on new year's day,
in which they resoundingly destroyed cincinnati
[by the way, you could see the disappointment in their faces
every cincy player just looked defeated from the very start
i'm amazed they even bothered to keep playing till the very end]
i don't question the validity of meyer's condition,
being a head coach of a team like that is extremely stressful
BUT
why make that announcement before the end of the season?
what good does that accomplish?
all it does is monopolize the media coverage solely on your team
i didn't hear jack shit about kelly after that, not once [cept in the game]
all it does is disingenuously make you seem like a flawed hero
and it absolves the team on accountability of any potential collapses
if florida won, it would be a bittersweet sendoff
if florida lost, it was because they lost their longtime friend and mentor

urban meyer, i call bullshit on your sincerity and motives
a true friend and mentor lets his guys play their hearts out
and he does it without crushing them before they do it
he doesn't drop a bomb on them a week beforehand,
and then reneg on it the next day
make up your goddamn mind before you open your mouth
i hope your health clears up, and i wish you no ill will
but don't pull this shit again
it's contemptible, and it's beneath you

next on my list, we have florida state university
despite whatever press they've released on the matter
they basically forced bobby bowden out the door
and they did so in the worst possible way
bobby is the sole person i'm not mad at on this [first] list
he'll go down as one of the best college coaches ever
he's a legend, and he's in a class of his own
which is why you never do to him what they did

back in early october, i read an article on espn
the fsu trustees chairman called on bobby bowden to retire
said the current system with the 'coach-in-waiting' wasn't working
and that bowden was past his prime, and needed to go
now, i don't care who you are or what you do
you do NOT dictate orders to a man like that
bowden's career put fsu on the national stage for good
he took what bill petersen did, and took it a huge step further
he created what we now know as the florida state seminoles
he's the second highest all-time winningest coach ever
he's tied for the most winning seasons ever
not a college football fan in the country doesn't know his name
why would you ever try to force that man out?

this isn't to say i don't understand their reasoning
bowden's success rate this decade hasn't matched their past
BUT
you can't measure the present on the past, not in this respect
you can't expect to be national champions every year,
you can't expect to be conference champions every year,
and you can't expect to win a bowl game every year
yes, his record this decade was 85–44 [.659]
and yes they 'only' won five bowl games this decade
[including his final win yesterday against his alma mater, west virginia]
but that's not the success you should measure him by

the man is a huge draw to fsu football, and the university in general
he is the epitome of what it means to be a seminole
he has absolutely earned the right to go out his way
that doesn't mean he should go as long as possible
we've all seen what happens when a coach just doesn't know when to quit
he said it himself this year:
he wanted to stay one more year, and that was it
how could they not grant him that?
if it's a losing season, then you don't need to say anything
he'll know he doesn't have it anymore, and he'll say goodbye
but if you come out and win big all season, what a great sendoff
you'll have a huge turnout every game
you'll have a great season [which will end in a bowl game]
and if you win a bowl game [maybe a big one],
what a great way to hang up your big ol' hat
but now we'll never know

THAT is how you let a coach end his life on the sidelines
you don't piss and moan about his rocky start in public
you don't bitch that his successor is having a tough time in public
and you don't fucking call for his retirement in public
fsu should be ashamed of themselves for how this was handled
bowden's retirement was definitely on their terms
i don't care what they say to the contrary
he was forced to retire before they were forced to fire him
[which would've killed the admin, no question]
he could've fought it, sure
he could've flat out said 'no', like paterno did in 2004
but that's just not his style

farewell, bobby bowden
may you enjoy your retirement longer than bear bryant did
seminole faithful with always remember what you did for them
and to florida state, the spineless seminoles atop the totem,
you are officially assholes

nikkō-shirane

so here's a question:
what kind of weird fuckin luck do i have?
i actually got a good grade in my history class
a 4.0, which is all kinds of stunning
maybe they both decided they like me after all
god knows my paper couldn't have possibly done it alone
that thing was horrible

also, i've broken a four-year long streak in terms of grades
every year my fall grades have been worse than my spring ones
in high school the semester differences weren't too bad
but at msu they've been pretty substantial
[the widest gap was a full point]
this fall, though, my gpa was almost the same as it was in spring
so i finally kicked the habit of really slacking in the fall
[i really didn't, but i'm gonna tell myself i did]
now let's see what next semester's gonna bring me

when the semester finally ended,
i gave myself a list of things to try to get done over break
i've currently accomplished: none of them
i take it back, i've accomplished one thing
though it's less of an accomplishment,
and more an 'hey, i finally took care of this'
but, i'm still 0 for 4 on substantial accomplishments
so i gotta get cracking on that

i bitch a lot about coming back to the mount
not about coming to the family, just about the town
but i have to say, it does have its redeeming qualities
it proved itself to be pretty photogenic
and it's perfect for walking around late at night
granted there aren't a lot of places to go,
but it's quiet, deserted, and not very well lit
which is a welcome change from e/l
it's also nice not to see someone i know every time i go somewhere
every time i'm out in e/l, i run into somebody i know
it's not a bad thing, sometimes it's a welcome coincidence
but still, every time?
it even happens on my five minute runs to 7/11 at 4 in the morning
i enjoy the anonymity here
granted, most people in the mount are stupid and crazy
but still

also?
george carlin's sortabiography is incredible
i got it on thursday, and i read it straight through
the man's an amazing storyteller,
it's a shame he didn't get to do his broadway showcase

fucking draft is finally taken care of
all it needs now is some editing and some citations thrown in
[it needs to be good too, but no amount of editing's gonna help that]
